Stores

From 2020, we have been running a special programme to increase the energy efficiency of our stores.

To this end, we are gradually launching a telemetry system in the stores, allowing for precise monitoring and management of electricity. The system makes it possible to remotely monitor and analyse in detail the energy demand and consumption of individual installations and equipment in the stores.

In order to generate a smaller carbon footprint and reduce energy consumption, we have decided to switch off the air-conditioning and lighting on the retail sales floor, in the backroom and store window completely in our stores on non-working days and at night. During store opening hours, we leave the air-conditioning settings in automatic operation within temperature limits between 20 and 22oC.

Once the store is closed, we switch off 70% of the lighting as long as the staff remain in the store, which is switched on automatically the next day without any action required from the store staff.

We also rationalise the energy consumption of the large-format LED screens, so we only switch them on centrally 15 minutes before the store opening hour and switch them off only 30 minutes after closing.

In the two-story locations, we are installing escalators with motion sensors that slow down when not in use.

RES

Wherever possible, we use energy from renewable sources (RES).

One important step in this direction, among other things, was the contract we signed in 2021 to build a wind farm to cater for our needs. Thanks to this, since 2023, we will supply a large part of our office facilities, as well as the Distribution Centre in Pruszcz Gdański and Brześć Kujawski, with wind energy. Ultimately, this power supply will also cover part of our showrooms in Poland.

The agreement with FIGENE is one of the largest PPAs (Power Purchase Agreement) for renewable energy in Poland. The company has built an additional wind farm for the implementation of the cooperation with LPP. The agreement is signed for 10 years with an option to extend for another five years.

In parallel, we have been implementing solar solutions.

Warehouse infrastructure

Since 2023, all our new construction projects are covered by BREEAM or LEED certification.

Distribution Centre in Brześć Kujawski

An important point in optimising the operation of LPP’s logistic facilities is reducing their environmental impact. The warehouse in Brześć Kujawski is currently undergoing the BREEAM sustainable construction certification process. The facility has been equipped with, among others, a recuperation system in the office rooms, which allows for up to 95% heat recovery.

Thanks to the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof with a total power of 1,5 MW and an area of over 7th m2, the building is powered by renewable energy. LPP attaches great importance to the comfort of its employees; therefore, already at the stage of designing the distribution centre, one of the priorities was to ensure the most favourable working conditions. Optimization of lighting, heating, air conditioning and ventilation installations thanks to an advanced BMS system, as well as wide corridors and glazing of the warehouse are only some of the available facilities in place for everyone’s convenience.

The facility is currently undergoing BREEAM certification at the Outstanding level. Buildings applying for the certificate must meet high requirements, including the use of environmentally certified materials, implementation of systems to minimise energy and water consumption, as well as providing access to natural lighting, ventilation, and bicycle facilities.

The Distribution Centre utilises renewable energy sources thanks to solar panels installed on the roof, with a surface area of 10,000 m2 and a total capacity of 2 MW. The power from the photovoltaic installation covers 30% of its energy needs.

Fulfillment Centre in Jasionka

The FC Podkarpacie building meets the requirements for BREEAM certification at the Excellent level. The facility, with a total area of 69,000 square metres, has been surrounded by flower meadows and plantings of trees and shrubs, and the warehouse spaces have access to natural light in 30%. The building also benefits from specialized systems to reduce water consumption by a min. 65%.

The choice of location and the solutions used allow not only to reduce the impact of the facility on the environment, including an additional reduction in CO2 emissions. Already at the design stage, the impact on the well-being and health of its users was taken into account. Lighting, heating, air conditioning and ventilation installations have been optimized to ensure the comfort of employees. Also with this in mind, a number of amenities have been introduced at the site, including two bus lines connected.

Fulfillment Centre in Pruszcz Gdański

Our facility meets the BREEAM certification requirements at the Excellent level (building A) and Very Good level (building B), was designed and equipped with, among other things, BMS technology allowing for lower operating costs and limiting the facility’s negative environmental impact. The system automatically controls electricity, lighting, ventilation and heating, as well as reduces consumption.

Green areas and flower meadows have also been laid out in the area surrounding the facility.

The centre has been awarded with the EDGE certificate, which is granted to buildings that are at least 20% more efficient in terms of energy, water and material consumption than standard buildings. It includes energy-efficient lighting, an air conditioning system that maintains appropriate temperatures in each room with minimal energy consumption, and solutions for reduced water usage.

Offices

LPP offices in Cracow and Gdańsk are environmentally friendly buildings featuring numerous improvements in terms of reducing energy consumption.

The headquarters of the Cracow LPP branch and the new office building in Gdańsk meet BREEAM certification requirements.

We have incorporated solutions such as the BMS system reducing energy consumption of equipment, air recuperation system or low-emission glass in windows whose size and location allow for a maximum use of daylight.

We launched a CarSharing system, based on a dedicated application available to all employees of the central headquarters.
